That title’s a mouthful, no doubt.
Our next post-conciliar document will be Holy Communion and the Worship of the Eucharist Outside Mass, acronymed HCWEOM. This document was promulgated in 1973 and is easy to find online. Our task here will be to look at the Introduction, sections 1-12, then proceed to various instructions within the document itself. Communion to the Sick and Viaticum are part of HCWEOM, but I think we’ll leave them to a future discussion of the 1983 Rite of Pastoral Care of the Sick, where they are included in an updated form.
Essentially, we’ll focus on the Worship of the Eucharist outside of Mass. For reference, you may want to look over the 1967 Instruction on Worship of the Eucharistic Mystery, Eucharisticum Mysterium on which we blogged here last year.
Ready? Set? Let’s go.

The document certainly is easy to find online. Who wrote it or promulgated it and when is not so easy to find. You answered the when for us, Todd. Thank you. Could you answer the who as well?

All of the rites were penned in Latin by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. The English publications were translated by ICEL.
