One Parish Is Enough

Cardinal Marc Ouellet, whose diocese is hosting the Eucharistic Congress this week, offers his take on the “Universal Tridentine,” this from CNS:

I think the intention of the Holy Father is to allow the practice of the extraordinary rite where there is a need and a request. In our diocese we have one parish. At the moment there is no need for other places. I think this is responding to the need of the population.

    it’s so common to be a rigorist or a laxist, but who speaks for freedom?

    The problem with the bishop’s (and presumably your) view is that there’s many other reasons a parish may “need” the EF besides people wanting it. I’ll go without giving examples, but I’m sure anyone can think of some.
