Cleveland Coup

I haven’t seen anything from the usual blogosphere suspects on this piece of news: Cleveland laity angling for a co-adjutor bishop. Rock did report that a police bodyguard was engaged for Bishop Lennon as he closed one parish earlier this month. This kind of thing isn’t good, even if the northeast Ohio laity have run off the rails.

In these situations, my mind tends to wander. I wonder what Bishop Lennon’s parents think about all this. Or his seminary classmates. Does a bishop under siege get phone calls from people close to him offering support? How often do you think a bishop calls up an old friend or mentor and asks, “Am I really on the right track on this?”

We don’t miss him here in Boston. One of Bernie’s boys.

Exactly. He did nothing,as Apostolic Administrator of the Boston Archdiocese to help the faithful (both the laity and clergy) through those difficult days. He seemed to love those photo ops trying to make us believe that we were on an immediate road to recovery.
