I like this guy. CNS has a main feature on Guy Consolmagno, SJ, and his reaction to the hype about yet another end-of-the-world opportunity. Namely 2012. Our Corporate Masters surely want us to keep that date in mind, as they stand to make some money off it, either by patronage of the movie or taking one’s eye off the shenanigans perped by one’s credit card company.
A reasonable Catholic view (as opposed to the paganism & heresy plugged here) from Brother Guy:
It’s true that in addition to human activity, many other factors may be causing global warming, but the only things we can control are the things that are caused by us. For that reason, we must not give up any attempt to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
What to do?
Not to panic. Just two precautionary measures are enough to increase the possibility of a long and healthy life: stop smoking and fasten your seatbelt.
The hype about 2012 is really funny. Universe Today has an excellent series debunking that nonsense.

I met a South American Shaman once who told me that the 2012 prophesies are completely misunderstood. They speak of evolution and growth, not some cataclysmic end of the world. But, the hysteria is much more amusing, eh?
