Palm Sunday … All Those Years Ago

Several months ago, while cleaning out a very old filing cabinet, I ran across a stack of worship aids and parish bulletins from 1972-73. Have a look at Palm Sunday’s cover:

For 1973, a typical choice for a song:

Assembly of the Christian Demonstrators? That’s a different way of putting it.

Preparation song is a setting of Psalm 131. Naturally, no copyright notice. No knowledge of this setting. In addition to the lack of copyright notices, the song on this page also has guitar chords.

And the final page:

1973. Not a shining time for church music, to be sure. Only that opening hymn is still in the parish repertoire today. But I didn’t program it this Lent or Holy Week.
