WYD 2011: No Sign of Propers

The World Youth Day folks aren’t getting the word on proper church music. Zenit gives some background on the theme song, including the fact that a bishop wrote the lyrics. You can hear the song here.

There are three versions of the song: pop-soul (their term), choir and organ, and orchestra. The last is almost twelve minutes long. What do you think? I rather favor the shortest version.

One Response to WYD 2011: No Sign of Propers

  1. Randolph Nichols says:

I find it plodding and without rhythmic interest and the orchestral version is dull. Most of the young people I encounter are bright and imaginative so it’s hard to believe they will find this engaging.

    Just one old geezer’s opinion.
