Bishop R. Daniel Conlon continues in a long line of bishops practicing
serial marriage a most modernist approach to the episcopacy. By the numbers:
Steubenville, population 18,659
Joliet, population 147,433
Steubenville diocese 40,411 Catholics out of 513,734 people.
Joliet diocese, 625,189 Catholics out of 1,734,304 people.
Steubenville diocese, 173rd and ninth-smallest of US Roman Catholic dioceses.
Joliet, 29th most Catholics, and in the shadow of the Smart One.
That’s what George Jefferson would call “movin’ on up.” I wasn’t aware that Steubenville was so small in Catholic population. I wonder how many guys, once installed as a bishop, have or would refuse a “promotion” to a more high-profile see.
