Calvary

It’s not really seasonally appropriate this time of year, but a group of students wanted to record my “spooky” arrangement of “Calvary” the other night. I’m surprised at what has an impact on people, not just young believers.

As I struggle to communicate with my own daughter, and attempt to discern her likes and dislikes, my reflection leads me to a few qualities to which my young friends seem to be attracted.

Sincerity. Simplicity. Straight-forward message; no bull. Spirituals, even white-bread versions of them, seem to fit the bill.

Wondering about young people? Expect to be surprised. All the time.
