WoC: The Saint Nicholas Perspective

It’s the 6th of December and it’s the feast day of one of our favorite seasonal saints. I listened to a few more holiday stations while transporting the young miss to school today. This week’s radio count now stands at two songs with mentions of Jesus, one mentioned God two or three times, and six did not. One of the “not” was Brenda Lee’s iconic tribute to the central European nature tradition that would probably scandalize the author of the season, if she were to explore a bit deeper.

The NYT takes aim at the culturewar’s Christmas front. Gail Collins tells it:

Fox News has a special online map highlighting current reported atrocities. I am looking at it now, and the message is clear: as problems go, this one is imaginary.

Some social conservatives embrace a seasonal victimhood this time of year, complaining that Christians are continually being mugged by anti-Christmas atheists bearing court orders. But the map pinpoints only a handful of alleged secular assaults, one of which is titled: “Salvation Army Volunteer Using Smaller Bell After Business Owner Complains.”

Meanwhile, I put this fine disk into my cd player last night.

It’s still Advent, people. 19 days to Nativity.
