Monsignori No More

The Vatican Insider reports that Pope Francis has abolished the title of “monsignor” for all religious clergy and for diocesan clergy younger than 65.

The action is not retroactive, but I wonder how many clergy might opt to turn in their purple and go back to just plain “Father.”

    Monsignori are a papal honor, so there’s no subsidiary to it whatsoever anyway.
