Frozen Iowa

The school district messaged parents mid-afternoon: no classes tomorrow and an extra day of Christmas vacation.

I expect people to be sleeping in, so it looks like I’ll get a stack of work done. Before baking cookies and putting together a nice pot of soup. I have potatoes, some meat, assorted vegatables, and a rosemary bush near the kitchen window.

The young miss said that Mars was warmer than Canada. I don’t know where she got that idea. Daytime temperature only. At night I think Mars plummets to about minus 100F. It may seem that cold outside, but we’re not going down quite that far.

The Brits have noticed us shivering; we were the top news story for the BBC the past several hours.
