Discontinuity

Watched a movie last night with my wife. It was a better than average flick, with one howling lapse on the film editor and director’s part in a very important scene. A couple watches a sunset. It’s an important part of the movie; the guy gives the woman his jacket because she’s chilled. He notices her eyes are closed and they have a funny exchange over it. The sun goes down over the hills in the distance, then their conversation continues … with sunlight shining in her face. Not just for one shot, but for the next minute or two. Blue sky appears behind the man’s head.

Makes me think I was never cut out to be a writer, just an editor.
