On the drive home a few weeks ago, I caught a snippet of Fresh Air in which Episcopalian priest Barbara Brown Taylor talks of her departure from ministry. She spoke of some survey conducted which found the following order for satisfaction in life among those involved in ministry:
male spouse of a minister
female spouse of a minister
I guess the only way I could get happier in life would be to talk Anita into divinity school. She’d still be far from the top of the heap, but the family would trade a #2 and #4 slot for a #1 and #3.
My sense is that this holds true for lay ministers as well. Anybody want to fight about it?
