The rite for the baptism of infants is to be revised, and it should be adapted to the circumstance that those to be baptized are, in fact, infants. The roles of parents and godparents, and also their duties, should be brought out more clearly in the rite itself.
The infant baptism rite was also completed in the 70’s. I can’t recall if the provisional form changed much before the current ritual. Note that the English translation of the Roman Missal currently in use is on the same provisional level as the early rites that were promulgated in the 70’s.
