The Holiday Buffet IV

More holiday cheer. Enjoy.

As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they’re made with skim milk or whole milk. If it’s skim, pass. Why bother? It’s like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

Blend the butter in before the milk if you want to avoid gummy mashed taters.

  2. Anne says:

…a little sour cream doesn’t hurt either.

  3. Todd says:

I add tarragon and use a bit of chicken or vegatable stock. My daughter likes mashed/whipped potatoes infused with cheddar cheese, too.

  4. Anne says:

My mom would sometimes add some mashed turnip as a variation, maybe with a little bacon. Yum! comfort food

  5. More basic query about the mashed potatoes: real potatoes or flakes?????

real potatoes, with real butter and evaporated milk or richer. If finances allow, grated cheese and saffron. [If I’m spending precious carbohydrate choices on mashed potatoes, they’d better be both real and fabulous]

  6. Jimmy Mac says:

You can substitute yogurt for sour cream. Just as good and slightly different.

Flakes? flakes!!!! That, madam, is heresy, pure and simple.
