I’ve been searching the fringes of sf and fantasy for some good reads and I stumbled across this book in the library and read it before I knew I had been occupied by a media sensation of sorts. The sf site reviwed it three times, and the one I most agree with is here.
I tend to dislike books with a Message. Even though I’m somewhat sympathetic to the evils of Big Government (Bush style) keeping a watch on my life, after 400-plus pages of preaching, it gets tiring.
I’ve read better books, and while the plotting and pacing was enjoyable, as was the character Maya, I think I’m looking for something with a bit more depth. The portrayal of religion and spirituality was rather limp. No question a non-believer or agnostic wrote it.
