Golden Mouth

Thursday is the feast for one of my favorite classical mystagogues.

If you care for some musical inspiration, I recommend you play this past Sunday’s sacred music program from Australian public radio. You’ll be happy to tune in to Rachmaninov’s setting of the Liturgy of St John Chrysostom. I believe the program plays this recording, but my city of residence has voices who have produced another well-regarded disc.

The Chrysostom web site addresses a controversy. So read up, listen up, and if you’re fortunate to have an opportunity to sing, that’s about as golden as most of our mouths have a chance to be.
