St Gregory The Illuminator

A confluence …

I ran across this Zenit piece on Pope Benedict dedicating the north patio at St Peter’s Basilica to the saint who brought Christianity to his Armenian people.

A few days ago my wife’s Valentine present finally arrived from Amazon, and also a little goodie, the Naxos cd of Hovhaness music for wind orchestra, which included an arrangement of The Prayer of Saint Gregory.

I have three different recordings of this piece, but I’ve never heard it taken at the clip performed by the Royal Scottish Academy. The piano reduction is pretty easy, even for me, but I want to be able to play it less stiffly. I’ll need some more work on it; perhaps Holy Thursday this year.
