The Armchair Liturgist: Servers Receiving Communion

armchair1.jpgI don’t have servers in my new parish. So this is a question for others taking the purple chair: when and where should servers receive Communion? Do they approach the altar and receive with adult Communion ministers? Do they receive with parishioners? Does their placement in the nave or sanctuary at your church influence your decision on a pragmatic level?

Father Edward McNamara answers the question on Zenit. But how would you answer it?

  1. I always give the servers holy communion first, both because that’s the practice I recall as long as I can remember, and it seems a courtesy to them under the circumstances, and it’s practical.

    Now I’ll go see what Fr. McN. says…
