Music For The Jesuits

Angela Mariani has a two-part series on her early music program, Harmonia, entitled, “Music for the Jesuits.” Part I is online and part II airs this coming week. There seems to be a glitch on the posting of part I’s playlist, but this coming installment looks juicy: a bit of polyphony and a lot of recorder music.

No sign of “You Are Near” however.

I should make my plug for Harmonia: it is simply the best and most engaging program of early music available on the web. The host has experience as an early music performer and is well-acquainted with sacred and liturgical music. There’s a great balance of instrumental and vocal music. The commentary is knowledgeable and accessible without being too much.
