PCS 167: Rites for Exceptional Circumstances

A brief post today, but an important one. The Rite of Pastoral Care of the Sick is clear about the use of the abbreviated rite: exceptional circumstances of the pastoral situation, not a busy or overworked priest:

167. Chapter VIII, “Rites for Exceptional Circumstances,” contains rites which should be celebrated with a person who has suddenly been placed in proximate or immediate danger of death. They are for emergency circumstances and should be used only when such pressing conditions exist.
