The rumor has been so persistent, the actual announcement may have been something of a let-down, but another American is heading to Rome for duty in the curia. He seems to be well-regarded in many circles. His Dominican background is a nod to the preaching tradition of his order. In fact, you can judge for yourselves: the Dominican House of Studies has posted a number of his talks.
What have you heard of the man?
I know him slightly and think very highly of him. He manages to combine passion for the Gospel and the Church with an irenic spirit. I have never discussed liturgy with him, but I can help but think that he will bring a calming presence to the liturgy wars.
