Postal Handwringing, But Why?

CNS feature on postal rate increases, and people getting nervous. Um, this is the twenty-first century. We don’t rely on hard copy in many media, including fundraising. I wonder if a church conference would ever be convened amongst a larger cross-section of charities, media organs, and other interested groups to discuss how we could revolutionize communication, using the internet, phones, and even old-fashioned e-mail. It’s not just a development issue.

I know I’ve bothered my staff colleagues with this idea, but for one example, I think the parish bulletin is dead. Why do we print off hundreds of copies every weekend? I think we’re on autopilot and the plane’s been flying since the middle of the last century. Less paper, more information. Got any good ideas out there?
