I received an e-mail asking me about a St Louis Jesuit benefit concert back in my last city. Cristo Rey schools: can’t go wrong with that cause, even if you get nothing in return.
Interesting that you can get tix online here:
This is the St. Louis Jesuits first performance ever in Kansas City. Proceeds benefit Cristo Rey Kansas City. Purchase of a Patron Level ticket includes a pre-concert reception w/ St. Louis Jesuits, prime seating and autographed CD. (Fair Market Value is $25.00)
These guys seem to be doing the occasional benefit concert around the US since a 2005 “reunion.” I can’t say I sign on to the notion of promoting liturgical composers in a marketing/concert/fandom sort of way. But good causes deserve support.
My friend asked me about a SLJ “tour,” and from what I can tell these events are nothing of the sort. Unlike speculation on one conservative site, none have left the priesthood, and three of the four active SLJ’s are still Jesuits, and still priests. If they’re like the many Jesuits I know, they’re quite busy doing the usual demanding stuff. Safe to say, there are no groupies or Spın̈al Tap moments hovering about events like this.
