Starting today, we’ll have a little fun. Now that March Madness is nearly over, and all the pope polls and saint polls are done, I thought I’d give you readers another chance to
stand up click and be counted.
I’ve consulted a few internet sites (Catholic and Protestant) as well as favorite song lists (mostly Catholic), plus some classical music to arrive at 81 Bible verses. Over the next month and a half, I’ll present three Bible verses a day: one from the Old Testament, one Gospel and one New Testament non-Gospel.
I’ll give you 72 hours to vote, and one out of three passages will pass to the subsequent round.
Some of the thinking behind this …
I found that John’s Gospel contains the most favorite verses on Protestant sites. but I limited the total offerings there to nine. I balanced Matthew and Luke and leaned toward material unique to those Gospels. I tried for a balance on Pentateuch/history, lyrical passages, and prophets in the Hebrew Scriptures. I was surprised that on Protestant sites, the Psalms were not highly regarded.
Anyway, have fun with it. It’s not meant to denigrate the 81st favorite, the 27th favorite, and such. It’s just fun and curiosity. The Ethereal Eighty-One begins later tonight. Which Bible verse do you think will come out on top with Catholic Sensibility readers?
