Driving Miss

Br parking

The young miss practicing parking today.

She’s been skittish about getting out on the open road, so we’ve been driving around parking lots up till today. Her choice: the middle school. Mine: the big lot between the football stadium and the arts theatre.

After parking practice today, and sharing the lot with another novice driver, (“How do you know, Dad?” “Who else drives around a football stadium for fifteen minutes two months before classes start?”) we hit the gravel and county roads outside of town. The young miss was leery about shooting up past 35mph, so we had a small line of traffic behind us. But she probably doubled her odometer mileage in one evening.

Nothing like spending Father’s Day doing fatherly things. What’s more fatherly to a teenager than teaching her how to drive? And keeping calm while doing so.

Heh. Tell her I still can’t parallel park worth a damn. Didn’t pass that part of my driver’s exam, and the person giving the test turned to me and said, “Well…just don’t move to Boston.” About 20 years later…there’s a reason why I don’t drive out here. ;)

  2. That was our house, last summer. Now our licensed driver is around and about!
