Sections 45 through 60 in Go and Make Disciples address “Our Goals.”
Three goals will be listed in the posts that follow. The bishops make the commitment to “pledge ourselves to work for the accomplishment of these goals, which spring from our understanding of evangelization and how it happened.”
The first goal (GMD 46-52) calls for the energizing of Catholics. The second (53-55) focuses on all Americans. And the third (56-60) aims at a transformation of American society.
Looking back over the past twenty years, the bishops have offered many missteps. Catholics have been alienated by their bishops, and many other believers see them as irrelevant. But these three goals indeed are related and each needs the other two moving ot a degree to have any hope of fruitfulness.
