Call For A Fresh Start

It takes guts, or something, to be a pastor and to suggest in one’s parish bulletin it may be time for a fresh start with one’s diocesan leadership. One assumes he might mean a new bishop, vicar general, and others tainted by the hint of cover-up or protection of predators in the clergy.

What are the long-term effects of such a statement? Fr Deziel may himself never be appointed to a chancery position. That might not be a bad thing, given the love of some guys for pastoral work in parishes. The guy doesn’t seem to be an outlier in terms of ideology. Or a loose cannon. Maybe until now.

Do some of his brother priests silently, covertly applaud him for saying or writing what they themselves feel in their own hearts? And if so, do they lack the courage to follow?

  1. Oh my God – such remarkable candor! May he be blessed!

  2. Jim McCrea says:

He probably wouldn’t look good in scarlet, emine or any of the rest of the bling so favored by the likes of R. Burke and S. Cordileone anyway.
