The Catholic Herald reported that a politician in the House of Commons came to her decision to retire from politics after a Thirty Day Ignatian retreat. MP Sarah Teather:
Sometimes you just have to shut up. This politician just needed to shut up and stop talking in order to make a decision.
Her web page has a full statement, though no explicit mention of retreat.
I also read on her web page she’s trained in the sciences and is a singer. And someone willing to discern during thirty days of silence. Sounds like an impressive person. We need more types like that in government rather than retiring from it.
I feel slightly envious of the thirty days, though. Sounds like a lot of grace was at work there.
