EG 134: At Universities

Vasnetsov_Maria_MagdaleneIn Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis calls upon another proposition from the input of the 2012 synod. This small section makes me sit up and take notice, given my setting in campus ministry. I can ask myself: am I doing everything in my ability to blend disciplines, to integrate the searches for truth and knowledge, and to urge my companions here in the university setting to explore likewise?

134. Universities are outstanding environments for articulating and developing this evangelizing commitment in an interdisciplinary and integrated
way. Catholic schools, which always strive to join their work of education with the explicit proclamation of the Gospel, are a most valuable resource for the evangelization of culture, even in those countries and cities where hostile situations challenge us to greater creativity in our search for suitable
methods.[Cf. Propositio 27]
