Last Day

swan in attack modeBecause it’s Sunday, and not Saturday, I will have to miss the festival of football on ten NBC networks this morning. It’s also Confirmation at a 2pm Mass, so I’ll miss all the post-game punditry, too.

The young miss would be pleased, as I am. Our teams got the first goals of the day.

Swansea City is now up 2-0 against the miracle side from Sunderland.

Even Cardiff got a goal already.

The NBCSN team was talking about the perceived inadvisability of playing in the Europa League. Huh. I wonder what’s up with that: all those extra matches but not a lot of return for the competition.

I have about five more minutes of following till it’s time to meet parishioners after 830 Mass and get ready to play the 1030.

Go Swans!

You didn’t miss much. Little chance for drama today as West Ham were never going to threaten City at home.

The Europa league is a joke. Rather than actually being forced to play the games, the qualifying sides should just be given cash awards up front. Even more so than the much derided NIT in college basketball, which at least has a meaningful history, the Europa is almost exclusively comprised of teams that didn’t have to actually win a cup or league competition to qualify.

That’s the impression I was getting from Rebecca and the Robbies. And some fourth dude there was saying that people were rooting for Man U to play it for the humiliation, plus they’d have to skip a more lucrative exhibition tour.

One of my parishioners was saying there’s a Premier League exhibition in Chicago this summer he’s attending. I have got to get to the real thing someday.

I was looking forward to switching back between 7 of the 10 games. (3 networks aren’t on our cable package.)
