41. For the celebration of the Easter Triduum it is necessary that there should be a sufficient number of ministers and assistants who should be prepared so that they know what their role is in the celebration. Pastors must ensure that the meaning of each part of the celebration be explained to the faithful so that they may participate more fully and fruitfully.
Explanation is most essential for parish ministers. I’m a skeptic on the need to interrupt the liturgy in any significant way. The best rituals need little explanation. When liturgy is well done, people aren’t awaiting pratfalls or errors or weird personality things they see in ministers. They watch. They listen. Bottom line: ministers should be extremely well-prepared.
