Our local grocery superstore began stocking these a few weeks ago. One of the produce guys was enthusiastic about it. (They usually are if they sniff a sale.) It even has a facebook page. It’s now my favorite melon, and the first one the young miss will eat.
The produce dude said they tasted like lemon drop candy. That’s an exaggeration. But they are sweet, hardly acidic, and do have a suggestion of citrus. I hope the Arizona breeders haven’t spliced lemon DNA into them.
I slice up about an eighth of a melon for my salad. A handful of spinach and some raspberry vinaigrette dressing. A little blue cheese. Yum.
Huh. Going to have to try it. I looooove melon ball salads.
Interesting. I generally dislike melons, except for watermelon (preferably old-fashioned seeded – which are tastier than “seedless”), so I will need to try this out, as I like subacid (sweet-tart) fruits normally.
