A modern Christmas song here. David Haas covered it a number of years ago, but the original has a more nuanced guitar, plus some understated strings.
When I was in my grad school days, my music director pulled out a number of songs from the Jesuits’ Gentle Night. I’ve never had the opportunity to use them in my twenty-eight subsequent Advent/Christmas cycles. Listening to the set of songs again on YouTube brings back memories.
My sense today is that John Foley’s compositions really stand out in this collection. Another favorite is this mash-up of Romans 11, Isaiah 10, and others. Always enjoyed duplicating the guitar part and adding a little bit more.
