Aparecida Resurfacing

Thinking a lot about mission and evangelization these days. I thought it would be a good time to regenerate the series on the Aparecida document my friend John Donaghy contributed some years ago.

I can’t promise daily reflections. I also won’t be reproducing the entire text word-for-word as we did in other explorations. On broader topics, maybe a more cursory look. Where evangelization matters, maybe something of a magnifying lens.

While the USCCB’s old link to the English translation has disappeared (Guess you scholars will need to buy it.) I did uncover a favorable 2012 essay penned by George Weigel which includes a certain affirmation of a bishop most Catholics know a lot better and love quite well. This quote:

This master plan for the New Evangelization in Latin America is rather long” — 20-times longer than the Gospel of Mark, I’d guess. But in virtually every other respect it’s an entirely admirable piece of work that should be known throughout the world Church.

Look for a post on sections 88 through 97 tomorrow.
