Peace Talks Coin

North korea peace talks coin featuring Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un: A North Korea peace talks coin featuring Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un has been struck by the White House before their summit meeting.
I’m no longer an active collector, but when I see interesting coins in pocket change or in the news, I take notice.

Maybe the casual observer finds the design a bit jarring–one news outlet used the over-used term “dumpster fire” on this piece. Coloring coins is nothing new, not only for “special offers” in US advertising, but even in other countries. I do hesitate to call this a “coin,” as it displays no denomination or value. As a souvenir, I  have no problem with it. I have a few such pieces in my collection–things connected with religion or space as you might guess.

I do find it curious the federal government would issue something like this so soon after the Korean leader has threatened to pull out of peace talks. I know the urge to self-congratulate is rife in American society. We like to think our effort is good enough even when the results lag. Still, I can see this as an object of ridicule among the president’s detractors. A one-word question for the government: why?
