Book Challenge Day 7

I have valued the guidance of spiritual directors in person far more than books they’ve recommended, but this collection of prayers stands above others as formative for my early spiritual life.

Before I read it, I sang the psalms; afterward, I prayed them. Before, I read the Bible; afterward, I engaged in lectio divina. Before, I was ignorant of Ignatian spirituality. This book gave me a gentle introduction that bore fruit three decades after my first spiritual director gave it to me.
