And Then There Were Two

The word’s out today that GIA is absorbing WLP. I have friends and contacts in both organizations. I suspect a little holiday uncertainty and a pile of work ahead is causing a bit of stress across Chicagoland.

GIA has been gung-ho on hymnals, so it will be interesting to see how they handle one of the two largest missalette operations in North America. The word is business-as-usual.

GIA Prez Alec Harris:

Acquiring the catalog of World Library Publications will significantly enhance our ability to serve the singing church across this nation and abroad.

It will be interesting to see what the next generation of GIA hymnals will look like. WLP has a nice core of well-done contemporary songs and the People’s Mass Book has a pedigree that rivals Worship. I can’t see 1500-song tomes, at least not until we’re singing from tablets and not printed pages.
