A Saint Among Many

I wish I knew the artist and reference for this painting of Saint Martha a friend gave me some years ago. It makes me like the elder sister of Mary even a bit more. It helps me think of saints as less pious little do-gooders and more as assertive and motivated people who are on a mission. Those people in white robes who have a real reason to celebrate and waves those branches in worship of the Lord Jesus.

Martha’s profession matches Peter’s in depth and surpasses it in fervor:

Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world. (John 11:27)

We can celebrate all the saints today, but any and all of them would continue to move our attention further to the Son, and keep our first focus on the One who is always coming into our world.
