Fratelli Tutti 272: The Ultimate Foundation

Today, the Holy Father discusses the Ultimate Foiundation:

272. As believers, we are convinced that, without an openness to the Father of all, there will be no solid and stable reasons for an appeal to fraternity. We are certain that “only with this awareness that we are not orphans, but children, can we live in peace with one another”. [Homily at Mass in Domus Sanctae Marthae (17 May 2020)]

Reinforcement from yesterday’s chapter introduction: all human beings are children of God. Humans might play favorites, and sadly, we do. But God possesses perfect justice and regard for the Creation, including sentient beings. If we recognized this, world affairs might be more stable, at least according to the last pope:

For “reason, by itself, is capable of grasping the equality between men and of giving stability to their civic coexistence, but it cannot establish fraternity” [Caritas in Veritate19]
