How would you readers feel about another document? On Saturday 18 September 2021, Pope Francis addressed his diocese on the upcoming 2021-23 synod. Each diocese is invited to engage the process over the next two years. My own archbishop recommended a synod before his permanent appointment here in St Paul-Minneapolis. We are in the final year of listening and discerning; this Fall each parish conducts small groups. The process moves to deaneries this winter, to a diocese-wide convocation in June, then a pastoral plan for the times ahead. I wonder how this will blend into the effort of the universal Church.
MSW at NCRep fussed about minimum action from US bishops. I wonder how many diocesan organs he’s been watching. In my part of the woods, it’s been heavily promoted. When I arrived here late last year, I was very heartened with the three focus areas discerned in the thirty listening sessions in the pre-pandemic year: discipleship, evangelization, and young people in (or out of) the Church.
Anybody out there sensing movement in your diocese for the synod? Either here in the US or elsewhere?
