My wife listens to the daily readings on the USCCB website. I caught a bit of it while getting dressed this morning, and the introduction: “The Responsorial Psalm. The response is …” Pardon me for being distracted, but is all the extra verbiage really necessary? When you readers are at a Mass without music, is this frequently done?
It’s one thing not to have a singer-psalmist, even at a daily Mass. But Catholics have gotten used to the Psalm following the First Reading for at least a half-century now. I think no extra words are needed. In the Lectionary itself, none are provided.
What do you think?
