Fake Noon Coming To My State

The Sun by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly of NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory - 20100819.jpgI see Minnesota politicians agree on one more clock change in 2022, then stop the falling back and springing forward.

Sleep disruption beckons for oppressed US inhabitants again this weekend. It’s not as bad as the forced early waking and working of April. It all seems so pointless. Why not just call it an 8 to 4 workday and be done with it? Or, given the people out of work or working from home or on their own pandemic schedule, who cares, really, about a clock change that does nothing for commerce?

Well, it would seem non-farming folks in east of a given time zone’s longitudinal meridian (Philadelphia, St Louis, Denver, Lake Tahoe) in northern latitudes tend to be more aggrieved of evening daylight than those to the west of it. There’s considerable sentiment (including at the state legislature level) in eastern New England for going on Atlantic Standard Time year-round. A alternative conceptual solution would be to use 7.5 degrees (instead of 15 degrees) of longitude wide notional time zones with half-hour increments.
