Bishops Meet This Week

I see it’s all over Catholic news that the US bishops are meeting in Baltimore this week. That document–some document–on the Eucharist is due. Long gone are the days when the USCCB produced documents that mattered. Peace. The Economy. They might have been controversial, and they might have ruffled Rome. But at least there was substance and discussion, if not dialogue.

I think any document on the Eucharist will go largely ignored. One commentator I read has suggested the piece will be more the document the bishops want to preach than what the laity want to hear. Or especially need to hear.

It’s the writer’s motto again: show, don’t tell. If the Eucharist matters, then let the bishops show us.
