One of the great losses when MR2 was deep-sixed in 1998 were some interesting and useful texts in the section “Masses and Prayers for Various Needs and Occasions.” That’s not to say that leaders of prayer can’t concoct their own texts for a Mass or intention of communications media. Sometimes it’s good to have resources at hand. Reinventing the wheel can be time consuming.
In the section titled, “Economic and Social Needs,” there’s this opening prayer which seems apt in the age of internet, fake news, and all 2021 goings-on:
O God,
whose word is truth
and in whose light we see light,
guide those who tell the story of our times
through word and image.Make them seekers after truth
and advocates of human dignity.Grant discernment to all who rely on their labors,
and, as we confront the pain and promise of this world,
awaken in us a sense of wonder at your presence
and of longing for your peace.We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
