Beatitudes for Bishops by Archbishop Domenico Battaglia of Naples, passed along by Pope Francis. The original text is here, in Italian. I think they’re not just for bishops.
Lots of church people lean to power over service. You don’t have to be a bishop to be about that.
Blessed is the bishop who considers his ministry a service and not power, making meekness his strength, giving everyone the right to hold citizenship in his heart, to inhabit the land promised to the meek.
Almost forty years ago, I met a choir director who exemplified this. When a choir member suggested a new piece, she would step aside and let the member teach and conduct the music. My friend took frequent turns in the alto section. That always struck me. Rare it has been to be in that situation that a choir member would want to direct a song. Though they are never lacking in suggestions.
Seems like good advice for parents too. Are children raised to be citizens?
