Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us 88-90: Six Dimensions

The US Bishops published Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us in 1999. In Part III A Plan for Ministry, the bishops outline Six Dimensions received from the General Directory for Catechesis 84-87. They quote it:

The maturation of the Christian life requires that it be cultivated in all its dimensions:

  • knowledge of the faith,
  • liturgical life,
  • moral formation,
  • prayer,
  • belonging to community,
  • missionary spirit.

When catechesis omits one of these elements, the Christian faith does not attain full development. (89)

Each Christian must access growth and development in all of these areas. Each formator must be aware of each of these, and if not competent in developing all or most of them, must be able to find others who are.

Over the next week, we’ll look at each of these in a bit of detail.
