When Forgiveness Becomes Heroic

I read this piece with this quote from an injured Uvalde teacher, Arnulfo Reyes:

I will never forgive them.

Forgiveness would be a heroic stance. Lacking a confession of guilt, attached to true contrition, and some gesture of making amends, it is hard to see how any return 

After everything, I get more angry, because you have a bulletproof vest. I had nothing! I had nothing. You’re supposed to protect and serve. There is no excuse for their actions.

It seems there is not. A social media friend posted the motto, “Blue Lives Scatter.” One has to wonder how much racism played into the delayed response. If any police force deserves to have a mass resignation, this one is likely it. It is hard to see how anyone connected with the response to the shooter can even show themselves in public in their town.
