Ignatius in July, 2: Pedro Arrupe

Some of my Ignatian friends are observing this entire month as a conclusion to the Ignatian Year, marking five centuries since the conversion of the saint to a particularly committed life.

Pedro Arrupe is one of my favorite Jesuits from history, and this prayer of his struck me:

Grant me, O Lord,
to see everything now with new eyes;
to discern and test the spirits
that help me read
the signs of the times;
to relish the things
that are yours
and communicate them to others.
Give me the clarity
of understanding
that you gave Ignatius.

See everything. Discern and test. And the missionary impulse. What more is needed?
