Desiderio Desideravi 32: The Morning of Pentecost

32. Let us return to the cenacle in Jerusalem. On the morning of Pentecost the Church is born, the initial cell of the new humanity.

Birthday cakes aside, I’ve seen other musings on the birth of the Church. One is the flow of blood and water from the Lord’s side after his death. 

That aside, if we take Pentecost as the taproot of the Church, and therefore liturgy, Pope Francis suggests mercy and gratitude for the Lord’s mercy is at its heart:

Only the community of men and women — reconciled because pardoned, alive because He is alive, true because dwelt in by the Spirit of truth — can open the cramped space of spiritual individualism.
